North West Calligraphy

Introduction to Calligraphy

October and November 2017

You have probably seen beautiful hand-written and decorated works in the past and wondered how you could learn this skill yourself.

North West Calligraphers are pleased to offer you the opportunity to find out what this wonderful art form is all about by offering a new set of classes.

These small group sessions are intended for absolute beginners, people returning to calligraphy after a long break, or anyone wishing to brush up their script. They are run alongside our regular monthly workshops but you will have your own dedicated tutor.

We offer these sessions at the Lyceum Building in Port Sunlight on the Wirral and at Lower Withington Parish Hall (near Jodrell Bank).

The classes will start at 11 am and there will be a break for lunch at 12.30 pm for half an hour.

During your lunch break you are invited to come into the main workshop to chat to members of the society and see what we’ve been doing in our workshop that day.  It will give you the opportunity to see that calligraphy is a very varied art form - and hopefully inspire you to find out more.

After lunch you’ll go back to your class and the afternoon session will run until 3.15 pm.

Your experienced tutor will guide you through the basics and materials are provided for you to use in the sessions.  There is the opportunity to purchase your own ‘starter kit’ should you wish.

The course consists of two sessions and the cost is £45 (payable in advance). Should the course not run for any reason we will, of course, refund your fee.  We do need a minimum number of participants to ensure the course goes ahead.

These classes are a great way to find out if calligraphy is for you.  Once you’ve tried it we are sure you will be fascinated by the rich variety of work you can produce.

By the end of the sessions, you will have learned the basics and feel confident about continuing with your calligraphy.

We pride ourselves on being a really friendly group of people who want to share our love of calligraphy with as many people as possible.

If you are interested and would like some more information, or information about future courses, please email Sue Robertson.

I really enjoyed Saturday's workshop and can't wait for the next one.  Thank you so much for making us feel welcome …
